Ultimate E-type – A Heavyweight on the Lightweights
Author, Philip Porter, is embarking on a definitive history of the charismatic and very rare Jaguar Lightweight Es, of which just 12 were built. Though there have been many replicas, just 11 of the genuine cars still exist and they are, without question, the ultimate E-types. Allegedly, one changed hands recently for a rumoured £5.3m ($8.5m / 6m euros).
Porter is no stranger to the subject, having written about 25 motoring books of which around 15 are on Jaguars, including the multiple award-winning, Jaguar E-type – The Definitive History.
“I would be very grateful indeed to hear from anyone who was involved with these cars, either driving or working on them, or anyone who has period photographs,” says Porter, who can be contacted via abigail@e-typeclub.com
There will be a chapter on each car and much period paperwork will be reproduced. All the current owners have pledged their support, including Peter Neumark whose company, Classic Motor Cars, will soon complete an extraordinary rebuild of the heavily-crashed but very original Lindner Lightweight. Another Lightweight is owned by F1 design legend, Adrian Newey, who is assisting Porter.
Next year is the 50th anniversary of the iconic E-type and the book will be published to coincide with the planned celebrations.
